Overview

LG AI Vehicle Cockpit: Multimodal HMI for Future Mobility

LG AI Vehicle Cockpit: Multimodal HMI for Future Mobility

At LG, I planned and designed next-generation vehicle cockpits together with development teams and external partners, showcased at CES and global motor shows. These cockpits integrated eye and head tracking, proximity touch, gesture and posture recognition, driver monitoring, and conversational AI voice to deliver safer, human-centered driving experiences.

Challenge

Each year required creating a brand-new cockpit concept, which demanded not only fresh design and planning under tight timelines but also constant communication and alignment with diverse stakeholders across engineering, business, and external partners.

Objective

The goal was to plan and design a next-generation multimodal cockpit that combined gaze, gesture, posture, driver monitoring, and conversational AI voice. Working with internal teams and external partners, the objective was to create an intuitive system that could be demonstrated at CES and global motor shows as a vision for safer and more human-centered mobility.

Result

The cockpit prototype was successfully completed and showcased internationally. It demonstrated seamless multimodal interaction, rebuilt confidence in LG’s innovation capability, and led to new collaboration opportunities with major global OEMs including Mercedes, Land Rover, and Genesis, and Kia.
